Passenger vehicle deliveries in India climbed to 222,400 units last month from 199,400 units in July 2014, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

Car sales jumped 17% to 162,000 in July. SIAM says demand for SUVs was virtually flat at 45,200 units, and van deliveries fell 9% to 15,200.

Deliveries of micro, mini and compact vehicles rose 20% to 142,700 units last month. Sales of midsize cars advanced 4% to 17,900 units.

Demand for heavy trucks climbed 14% to 8,300 units, led by a 23% jump to 5,300 units for segment leader Tata. But small-truck sales continued their decline, falling 9% to 21,500 units in July as a 27% drop for Tata offset gains by other competitors.
