The British car market posted its 18th consecutive month of growth in August as vehicle sales climbed 11% to 65,900 units, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Last month's volume compared to 162,000 sales in July. SMMT notes that August sales always slow as buyers wait for the country's September change in license plates, which determines the year of registration.
The U.K.'s sales upswing compares with August declines of 5% in Germany, 11% in France, 7% in Italy and 18% in Spain.
In August SMMT boosted its full-year sales forecast 8% to 2.21 million units. Analysts concur, predicting continued strong sales well into 2014.
