Car Sales in India Rise for First Time in Three Years

Passenger vehicle sales in India grew 5% to 1.9 million units in the fiscal year ended March 31, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. It was the market's first year-on-year improvement since 2012.

SIAM previously predicted 4% growth for the period. The group expects sales in the current fiscal year to expand only about 1%.

Earlier this year SIAM reported that sales in India during calendar 2014 climbed about 3% to 1.85 million, reversing a 10% drop in the previous calendar year.
