The British auto industry produced 158,600 vehicles in June, up 10% from a year earlier. But the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders cautions that output could drop if the government fails to negotiate tariff-free access to the European Union.

Carmakers overwhelmingly favored the U.K. remaining in the EU. Last month’s vote to exit has prompted several producers to warn they may halt further investment in the country unless the U.K. can rapidly reestablish duty-free relations with the EU.

SMMT says nearly 70% of its members worry about trade barriers resulting from Britain’s exit.
