Light vehicle sales in Canada edged down to 157,800 units in April from 159,900 units a year earlier, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants Inc. Last month marked the first sales decline of 2012.
April demand for light trucks slid 3% to 81,400 units. Car sales advanced 1% to 76,400 units.
Chrysler remained Canada's top-selling carmaker last month with a 3% increase to 24,500 vehicles, narrowly beating Ford (-5% to 24,200 units). Volume dropped 7% to 21,100 vehicles at General Motors and 2% to 17,400 units at Toyota. Sales were flat at 14,300 units for Hyundai and up 4% to 11,300 vehicles for Honda.
