General Motors Co. plans to shut down the New York City headquarters of its Cadillac brand on April 1 and relocate that function to Warren, Mich., Automotive News reports.

GM set up the so-called Cadillac House in the city’s SoHo district in 2015. The office houses about 110 sales and marketing people. Caddy’s product development, design, engineering and manufacturing operations has remained in metro Detroit.

At the time, then-President Johan de Nysschen said moving the Cadillac headquarters would be critical to fostering a car culture for Caddy that could restore the brand’s image as a benchmark for luxury vehicles.

GM said last September that it intended to move Caddy headquarters back to metro Detroit but retain a significant presence at Cadillac House. Now the unit says the New York location is no longer useful.

The company replaced de Nysschen in April 2017 with Steve Carlisle, the former head of GM Canada. He and the brand’s new marketing chief, Deborah Wahl, are already based in Detroit.
