General Motors Co.'s Cadillac brand will begin building its new super-luxury model late next year. Last month the company confirmed plans to produce the car but didn't say when.
The new sedan, whose name has not been announced, is inspired by the Elmiraj concept shown in 2013 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
GM says the car will be publicly unveiled in preproduction form in the first half of 2015. Brand President Johan de Nysschen says the new model is intended to elevate Cadillac to the "elite class of top-level luxury cars."
The four-door will be produced at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant using "custom-designed materials" and "innovative manufacturing techniques," according to GM.
Tooling has already been installed at the factory, which also makes GM's electric vehicles and the conventionally powered Chevrolet Malibu and Impala sedans. GM says the Caddy will ride on a new platform that won't be shared by any other model.
