General Motors Co.'s Cadillac unit is leasing 34,000 sq ft of office space in Manhattan for its new headquarters, the Detroit News reports.

The space occupies the top two floors of a 16-story building at 330 Hudson in lower Manhattan's trendy West Village.

Cadillac plans to relocate about 30 people to the new facility next spring and hire roughly 90 new employees there. President Johan de Nysschen announced the headquarters plan two months ago.

De Nysschen says Cadillac had little chance of being taken seriously as a luxury marque unless it breaks free of its psychological links to GM's other brands. "If we don't move, nothing will change," he declared in a Facebook post last month. He says relocating the headquarters will help Cadillac develop its own mindset.
