General Motors Co. has no plans to drop the Cadillac Escalade SUV from its lineup or shift it to a car-based unibody platform to better compete with rival European luxury marques, as some recent media reports have suggested.

Countering such speculation, Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen tells the Detroit Free Press the Escalade will continue to use a body-on-frame chassis for the foreseeable future. But he says the flagship Caddy SUV will move further upscale and continue to add new technologies.

Although the next-generation Escalade isn’t due until early next decade, a mid-cycle update is expected within the next few years. The 2016-model has a base price of about $73,000.
