General Motors Co. says it might use the Escalade moniker from its fullsize Cadillac SUV on a new lineup of Cadillacs that includes a large crossover.
Bob Ferguson, Cadillac's global senior vice president, tells reporters at the unveiling of the 2015 Escalade on Monday that adding a large unibody crossover would build on the brand equity of today's body-on-frame Escalade SUV. Analysts note that such a model also might be more fuel efficient.
A full line of highly targeted models meaning sedans and coupes could one day carry the Escalade name, Ferguson adds. But he stresses that no decision has been made about expanding the Escalade brand. GM already markets three large seven-passenger unibody crossovers: the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse.
The all-new 2015 Escalade is built on the same chassis that underpins the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks GM introduced in June.
