General Motors Co.’s next Cadillac crossover will be a new compact model in 2018, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen tells Automotive News.
The vehicle likely will be called the XT4, following the nomenclature started with the new XT5 midsize crossover that is due to bow next spring, the newspaper notes. The vehicle would be positioned against the BMW X3 and Lexus NX in the rapidly growing compact luxury crossover market.
The other crossovers in Cadillac’s four-model plan will include a larger, three-row crossover by early 2019, de Nysschen says. This could be followed by a subcompact to compete against the Audi Q3 and BMW X1, AN adds.
Earlier this month, Cadillac said the XT5 was the first of four XT crossovers it planned to launch by the end of the decade. Built on an all-new platform, the XT5 replaces the SRX in Cadillac’s lineup. The brand also makes the Escalade full-size SUV.
