Sales of SUVs and crossover vehicles in China—55% of them made by domestic carmakers—surged 72% to 715,600 units in November, according to the China Assn. of Automobile Manufacturers.

The group says passenger car sales in China rose 24% to 2.2 million units last month. Last week the China Passenger Car Assn. reported the country's car sales climbed 18% to 2 million units, led by a 25% jump in demand for SUVs.

CAAM says China’s domestic brands hiked their combined market share one point last month to 41.9% of the country’s car market. The group adds that Chinese brands accounted for 75% of China’s “green” car sales, including all of the market’s 10 best-selling models, in November.
