General Motors Co. says its new Buick Avista concept coupe “stretches the boundaries” of what’s possible for the luxury marque. The carmaker unveiled the stylish 2+2 coupe Sunday night in Detroit.
The sporty Avista rides on GM’s rear-wheel-drive Alpha platform, which also carries the Chevrolet Camaro sports car and Cadillac’s ATS and CTS models. It’s the second year in a row Buick has made a splash with a rwd concept car the day before the Detroit auto show, following last year’s preview of the sleek Avenir sedan.
Duncan Aldred, who heads Buick, hints that a production model based on the Avista is being considered. He notes a clear “need and desire” for rwd models in some segments.
The Avista is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 400 hp. Other goodies include cylinder deactivation, automatic stop-start engine technology GM’s magnetic ride control system.
