Ford Motor Co. says that more than 2,000 buyers in the U.K. have ordered a Mustang since January, when the carmaker began offering right-hand drive versions of the pony car there.

Four out of five of U.K. orders have been for coupe body styles rather than convertibles, and 70% of the buyers have opted for Ford's 5.0-liter V-8 engine over the car's base 2.3-liter Ecoboost four-banger. By comparison, just over half of Mustang buyers in the U.S. choose the V-8, with the rest split between 4- and 6-cylinder mills.

The Mustang's 6-speed manual transmission is slightly more popular than the 6-speed automatic with U.K. buyers, accounting for 55% of the orders.

The right-hand drive Mustangs are built alongside other Mustangs at Ford's plant in Flat Rock, Mich. Shipments to the U.K. and other markets are due to start in November.

Ford launched the left-hand-drive version of the revised Mustang in the U.S. last year. It eventually plans to sell the iconic model in more than 120 countries, including 25 right-hand-drive markets.
