Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling 121,600 of its 2013-2014 model Dodge Dart small sedans to fix a problem that could reduce power brake assist, thus making the vehicles more difficult to stop.
The callback involves 2013-2014 models equipped with 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engines. Cars powered by 1.4-liter engines are not affected.
FCA says oil can get into the brake booster and degrade its diaphragm. If that occurs, the system could lose its ability to provide power-assisted braking, which would require the driver to exert stronger pressure on the brake pedal.
The company says it is aware of seven accidents and two minor injuries that may be a result of the problem. Most of the affected cars are in the U.S. But the recall also covers 12,000 units in Canada, 3,700 in Mexico and about 450 elsewhere.
