Mitsubishi Motors Corp. plans to recall 14,700 of its i-MiEV electric minicars worldwide to replace a defective air pump used in the power brake system.

The campaign believed to be the world's largest EV recall to date involves only electric versions of MMC's "I" five-door hatchback.

The company has sold roughly 22,000 i-MiEVs worldwide since introducing the EV to retail customers in Japan in 2010. The model debuted in Europe in 2010 and North America in 2011.
