Bosch Rolls Out New Object Detection Sensors

Robert Bosch GmbH says it will add a mid-range sensor to its radar lineup later this year and put a stereo-video sensor into mass production in 2014.
The 77-GHz radar mid-range sensor will offer better distance and object measuring accuracy than the widely used 24-GHz system in its portfolio.
The new unit is much smaller, significantly less expensive and effective at almost the same distances as the older sensor, according to Bosch. The company says the unit will become an integral part of automatic adaptive cruise control and emergency braking systems for unspecified carmakers.
Bosch says the 3-D video sensor it will introduce in two years can measure the distance to the vehicle ahead at speeds as high as 100 kph (62 mph). The company expects to use the device in safety systems that can take automatic evasive action to avoid a crash or help guide a vehicle through a construction zone.
