Robert Bosch GmbH has resumed delivering electronic steering gear assemblies whose shortage last week began disrupting BMW AG production on three continents.
The backup began when an unidentified Italian supplier of metal housings was unable to maintain its delivery schedule. The problem affected BMW’s output of 1, 2, 3 and 4 Series small cars in China, Germany and South Africa.
BMW tells Bloomberg News it hopes to make up for lost output over the next several weeks. The supply problem did not impact the company’s production of larger cars or SUV/crossover vehicles.
