BorgWarner is creating a new Oregon-based subsidiary, Cascadia Motion LLC, to supply low-volume components for electrified powertrains.

Cascandia Motion will consist of two Oregon-based businesses BorgWarner has acquired: Rinehart Motion Systems LLC and AM Racing Inc., both of which supply systems for specialty road cars, motorsports, motorcycles, heavy-duty trucks and buses. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

Brock Fraser, who had been BorgWarner's executive director of innovations and investments, will head Cascadia’s operations.

Rinehart, which was formed in 2002, specializes in propulsion inverters and controls. Seven-year-old AM Racing designs and manufactures single- and dual-core electric motors and gearsets.

BorgWarner expects 80% of its new business through 2021 will come from electrified systems. The company acquired Remy International Inc. (electric motors and alternators) in 2016 and added Sevcon Inc. (controllers, converters and battery chargers) in 2017.
