BorgWarner Inc. has completed a 46,000-sq-ft expansion of its powertrain technical center at its Auburn Hills, Mich., headquarters campus.
The $11 million addition includes a new friction material testing lab, torque transfer testing lab and new office space that will be used to develop next-generation transmissions, turbochargers and other engine and driveline components. A new engineering garage and vehicle test lab were opened last year.
As part of the expansion, BorgWarner has added 180 new engineers, program managers and sales people. It now employs more than 500 people at the site.
BorgWarner opened the Michigan tech center in 2002 and moved its headquarters from Chicago to Auburn Hills three years later. The expansion supports the company’s plans to double its annual sales from $7.3 billion in 2013 to $15 billion in 2020.
