Stamford, N.Y.-based Bollinger Motors LLC says its upcoming B1 electric SUV will have a minimalist design featuring traditional mechanical controls and analog displays.

The startup released a sketch of the interior this week and plans to unveil a production-ready version of the vehicle, which is targeted at off-road applications, this summer.

Aluminum is used throughout the vehicle, including the chassis and interior. The instrument panel has four prominent circular gauges: a multi-function LED display, analog speedometer with an odometer inset, analog tachometer that displays the revolutions per minute of the drive motors and a battery-level indicator.

Below the gauges, a switch panel provides control of the lights, climate settings, wipers, winch, suspension height and the all-wheel-drive system's locking differentials. The steering column has a traditional mechanical PRND lever and key insert rather than a touchscreen or push button starter.

The HVAC system features a three-section, rotating tubular vent system that Bollinger touts as an industry first. Occupants roll the tubes, which sit on top of the dashboard and run the length of the windshield, to redirect airflow.

Bollinger envisions the B1 being used by builders, do-it-yourselfers, off-road enthusiasts and ranchers. Several 110-volt power outlets will be placed throughout the truck so operators can use the onboard electricity to power hand tools, lights and other equipment, thus eliminating the need for a backup generator.
