BMW AG presented its first all-electric SUV/crossover, the iX3, in concept form earlier today at the Beijing auto show.

The car will go into production in 2020 in partnership with Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd. at their jointly operated factory in Shenyang. The car is expected to eventually be exported to western markets, including Europe and the U.S.

The iX3 concept (pictured) is powered by a 270-hp electric motor and a battery pack that provides a driving range of about 400 km (250 miles), according to the company. The vehicle employs BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive system for hybrid and pure-electric powertrains.

BMW’s only all-electric car currently in production is the $44,500 i3 city car introduced in 2013.
