BMW AG says the fourth-generation X5 SUV/crossover vehicle will feature an upgraded chassis and suspension to improve performance and comfort.

To showcase the 2019 model’s capabilities, BMW released a teaser video of a camouflaged X5 being tested in rugged locations around the world. The car’s suspension and powertrain setup “perfectly” adapts to various road surfaces and conditions, the carmaker boasts.

The redesigned X5 will ride on BMW’s modular CLAR platform that debuted in 2016 in the flagship 7 Series sedan. The lightweight architecture is teamed with BMW’s latest M adaptive suspension and integral active steering technologies. A new off-road package includes an all-terrain mode to further enhance performance.

Sales of the new X5 are due to start late this year or in early 2019. The vehicle will be built at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, S.C.
