BMW AG says it will begin in December to recall 136,200 of its cars and crossovers in the U.S. to replace faulty fuel pumps that could cause engine stalling or a fire.

The campaign will cover a variety of 5 and 6 Series cars and X5 Series crossovers made during the 2007-2011 model years.

All models have fuel pumps mounted within the fuel tank. Electric wiring that powers the pump could loosen from its connectors. That could cause the connector to melt and raise the possibility of a fuel leak.

BMW says fuel leakage would be most likely after refueling or during cornering. If the pump stops working entirely, the engine would stall or become impossible to start.
