BMW AG has unveiled its first official images of the new 4 Series coupe and convertible variants that will fit between its best-selling 3 Series and larger 5 Series vehicles.
The 4 Series cars will be sportier, more exclusive and much more sharply differentiated in design from the current 3 Series coupe and convertible, according to the company. It hasn't said when the new models will debut or whether they will mark the end of today's 3 Series coupes and convertibles.
BMW adopted the same strategy, which has spawned variants of its 5 Series and 7 Series cars: the 6 Series and 8 Series coupes.
The 4 Series models are wider and lower than their 3 Series counterparts and will ride on a wheelbase that is slightly longer and wider. BMW says they are styled to produce a more athletic look with 20-inch wheels, pronounced wheel arches and upturned tailpipes.
4 Series cars also will get custom interior trim distinguished by swoopier door panels, strongly contoured rear seats, two-tone surfaces and leather-covered cup holders.
