BMW AG’s group car sales grew 2% to a record 179,300 units in April. Deliveries through the first four months of 2016 totaled 736,900 cars and crossovers, up 5%.

BMW AG’s group car sales grew 2% to a record 179,300 units in April. Deliveries through the first four months of 2016 totaled 736,900 cars and crossovers, up 5%.

Demand for BMW brand vehicles last month advanced 1% to a record 150,500 units, led by strong sales of X model SUV/crossovers. Mini deliveries increased 6% to a record 28,400 small cars.

BMW sold 4,500 plug-in and all-electric vehicles in April. Demand was strongest in the U.S., Scandinavia and the U.K. The company says nearly 10% of X5 crossovers sold last month were models with plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Group sales in Europe in January-April gained 10% to 341,200 cars. Deliveries in Asia rose 6% to 234,500. But demand in the Americas dropped 8% to 138,000, including a 10% decline to 111,200 in the U.S.
