BMW AG delivered 240,700 passenger vehicles in March, up 4% year on year. It was the company’s largest monthly volume ever.

The group's BMW and Mini brands also posted any-month highs in March. Demand for the BMW marque advanced 3% to 201,400 vehicles, marking the first time its sales surpassed 200,000 in one month. Mini deliveries rose 7% in March to an any-month record of 78,300 cars.

The company says retooling for the new Dawn Drophead Coupe cut production and caused deliveries of ultra-luxury Rolls-Royce cars to drop 25% to 246 units.

BMW’s group vehicle volume in the first quarter of 2015 climbed 6% to 557,600 units. Sales in January-March rose 6% to 478,700 units for the BMW brand and 5% to 78,300 for the Mini brand.

Analysts note that arch rival Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz brand outsold the BMW brand in the first quarter by 4,800 units. Mercedes sales for the period surged 13% to 483,500 vehicles, buoyed by a flood of new models.
