BMW AG is calling back 312,000 cars in the U.K. that could suddenly lose all electrical power and stall.
BBC News says the campaign expands a callback of 36,400 cars last year. The new recall involves 2007-2011 model BMW diesel and gasoline-powered 1 and 3 Series sedans, Z4 sports cars and X1 small crossover vehicles.
The recall addresses an electrical flaw that can short-circuit the electrical system, killing power to the engine and shutting down the vehicle’s lighting system. In 2013 the same flaw prompted the carmaker to recall 720,000 of the same models in the U.S., Canada, Japan and South Africa.
BBC reports that a British inquest revealed that BMW received complaints about the problem as early as 2011 but failed to notify the U.K.’s Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
