A potential fire threat has prompted BMW AG to schedule an April recall of 19,100 of its i3 electric sedans sold in the U.S.
Affected models were built during the 2014-2016 model years and equipped with an optional gasoline-powered generator used to extend the cars’ range. BMW says a fuel tank vent hose may chafe and eventually leak gasoline fumes that could be ignited by the generator’s piston engine.
Dealers will inspect the vent tube and replace it if necessary. BMW reports no cases of accidents or injuries related to the flaw.
