BMW Affirms Commitment to Diesels
BMW AG CEO Harald Kruger says there have not been any changes in “buying behavior toward diesels” among BMW customers and that the company remains committed to diesels in the wake of Volkswagen’s emissions cheating scandal.
BMW AG has detected no change in buying behavior toward diesels among its customers, says CEO Harald Kruger. He adds that the company remains committed to diesels in spite of Volkswagen AG’s widening emissions cheating scandal.
Kruger tells attendees at BMW’s quarterly update meeting that the company could not meet current Europe’s carbon dioxide emissions standards without its latest generation of fuel-efficient diesel engines.
Kruger emphasizes that BMW “strictly adheres” to regulations and varying test requirements around the world. But he also urges regulators to adopt common global standards, which would streamline certification and eliminate duplicate engineering programs currently required to meet different standards.
