BMW AG has developed special glasses that, when combined with exterior cameras on a vehicle, enable the wearer to "see through" the vehicle during parking maneuvers, sources tell the Financial Times.

The glasses, which BMW has been developing at its lab in California's Silicon alley, will be unveiled publicly in April at the Shanghai auto show, according to FT's sources.

The system helps drivers more precisely gauge the clearance between their vehicles and curbs, adjacent cars, curbs and other obstructions during low-speed maneuvers.

The FT says the glasses apparently have been developed to display other transportation-related information, suggesting they are intended to be worn outside the car too.
