BMW AG and Porsche AG have hustled out apps for the just-launched Apple Watch that enable wearers to remotely monitor their cars.

The watch apps are similar in functionality to existing smartphone apps for cars. They can perform such tasks as remotely locking and unlocking the doors, reporting the opened/closed status of the windows and sunroof, checking fuel or electrical charge level, activating the HVAC system, tracking vehicle statistics and helping you find your vehicle in a big parking lot.

Porsche's Car Connect app for the Apple Watch works with all the company's vehicles beginning with the 2014 model year. BMW's "i Remote" app functions only with the company's i3 electric city car and i8 hybrid supercar.
