They say the vehicle will be a coupe influenced by last year's Vision Future Luxury concept and be marketed under a new 9 Series nomenclature.
A carbon fiber body and components would be used to keep weight down, according to the reports. Engine choices could include 3.0-liter gasoline and diesel engines, along with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 and possibly V-12 and hybrid options.
A 9 Series coupe would compete against Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe and ultra-luxury Maybach cars. Target markets would include the U.S., China and the U.K.
Unlike the 8 Series supercar, which was discontinued in 1999, the 9 Series likely would focus on luxury appointments rather than all-out performance, Leftlane News suggests. It says the vehicle could be introduced as early as 2017.
