BMW AG says it will price its i3 electric car in the U.S. about the same as a typically equipped 3 Series sedan meaning about $38,000, Bloomberg News reports.
The company expects America to become the world's largest market for the i3, which will go on sale there in May. The company tells an automotive conference in New Orleans it anticipates selling a few thousand of the little EVs in the U.S. in the first year.
The car can travel about 100 miles per charge. Its range can be approximately doubled when equipped with a $3,900 range-extending generator powered by a 2-cylinder gasoline engine.
