BMW Names New Sales Chief in China

BMW AG has appointed Karsten Engel, senior vice president of BMW Group Germany, to become head the company's Beijing-based sales operations in China on March 1.

BMW AG has appointed Karsten Engel, senior vice president of BMW Group Germany, to become head the company's Beijing-based sales operations in China on March 1.

His new duties will include overseeing BMW's joint venture with China Brilliance Automotive Holdings Co.

Engel will succeed Christoph Stark, who is retiring after almost nine years in the Chinese post. Under Stark, BMW's annual sales in China have grown to more than 300,000 vehicles from 16,000 units.

Roland Krueger, head of BMW's Japan sales, will replace Engel in Germany.
