BMW AG is considering an M-badged performance version of the range-topping X7 crossover/SUV due in 2019, BMWBlog.com reports.
The enthusiast website, which doesn’t cite its sources, says a decision on the X7 M likely won’t be made until 2018. If approved, the vehicle could be introduced in 2020.
In addition to unique styling, the M variant would get an upgraded performance package, according to the report. It suggests the performance crossover will use the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine and dual-clutch automatic transmission planned for the next-generation M5 sedan expected early next year.
The extra power will be supported by beefier brakes, a sport-tuned suspension and standard all-wheel drive. It isn’t clear if the model will have two or three rows of seats.
