BMW AG plans to hire Peter Schwarzenbauer, former sales and marketing chief at Volkswagen AG's Audi unit, in an unspecified senior management position, Bloomberg News reports.
The news service cites unidentified sources who say Schwarzenbauer will join BMW next month and report directly to CEO Norbert Reithofer.
Schwarzenbauer left Audi last June after a VW management shakeup. The brand's sales jumped about 50% to 1.46 million vehicles during his four years in the sales post.
Audi and BMW are competing to be the global top-selling luxury brand. BMW took the crown in 2012. The brand sold 221,800 vehicles worldwide in the first two months of 2013 a mere 400 vehicles more than Audi.
