Recent and frequent destinations are stored for quick reference. Users also can access saved calendar entries and third-party services, such as charging/refueling stations, authorized service centers and parking garages.
The so-called personal mobility assistant app calculates estimated travel times—including driving, parking and walking—based on current traffic conditions. Departure reminders can be sent to a person’s iPhone or Apple Watch, and automated texts can be sent to family, friends and co-workers to update them on a driver's estimated arrival time.
The new app is powered by Microsoft Corp.’s Azure operating system and is integrated with BMW’s ConnectedDrive services, which lets users control some vehicle functions remotely. The Connected North America app is available from Apple's App Store for select BMW customers in the U.S.
