BMW AG's new 2 Series Gran Tourer minivan will bow next month at the Geneva auto show and go on sale in Europe and China in June. The car will have a base price of €27,000 in Germany.

The seven-seater joins the five-seat 2 Series Active Tourer that debuted last September. Both compact models ride on BMW's "UKL" front-drive platform, which also carries the current-generation Mini.

The Gran Tourer is sized between the Volkswagen Touran and Opel Zafira. The car will be offered with a choice of five 3- and 4-cylinder turbocharged engines (two gasoline and three diesel) rated from 116 hp to 192 hp. An all-wheel-drive powertrain will be optional.

BMW will produce the Gran Tourer along side the Active Tourer at its assembly plant in Regensburg, Germany.
