The first variant of BMW AG’s all-new 8 Series coupe, the M850i xDrive, will be priced at just under $113,000 when it is launched in the U.S. in December.
The 2019 model will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine that generates 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The powerplant can accelerate the vehicle from zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds.
The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-biased all-wheel drive. Unlike the xDrive in the M5, which can be turned off, the M850i’s awd is always on.
The M850i will feature several performance upgrades but won’t be a full-blown M variant, which is expected to come later. Among the M-engineered features are the active anti-roll bars, an adaptive suspension and roll stabilization, sport brakes and an electronic rear differential.
Other goodies include four-wheel steering, automated parking, LED headlights with laser high beams, Merino leather upholstery, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and a pair (12.3- and 10.25-inch) of digital displays. The option list is led by a driver assist package with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection.
Buyers also can opt for a 1,400-watt Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround-sound system, a carbon fiber roof and exterior trim, and glass controls for the gear selector.
