Volkswagen AG's Bentley Motors Group says the ultra-luxury crossover vehicles to be unveiled in production form later this year will be called Bentayga, a name inspired in part by a mountain in the Canary Islands.
The upcoming car will go on sale in 2016. Pricing hasn't been announced but is likely to fall somewhere between €175,000 and €240,000.
Bentley began in mid-2013 to prepare its factory in Crewe, England, to build the new model on a separate dedicated production line. Previous reports said the crossover may be powered by a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine.
The company, which sold a record 11,000 cars in 2014, expects to find buyers for about 3,000 Bentaygas per year. CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer says the company has accepted deposits from 4,000 would-be customers.
