Troy, Mich.-based powertrain supplier Dayco Products LLC has hired Charlie Baker as a senior vice president in charge of research, development, engineering and program management.

Troy, Mich.-based powertrain supplier Dayco Products LLC has hired Charlie Baker as a senior vice president in charge of research, development, engineering and program management.
Baker has more than 35 years of experience in product development, program management and engineering. He most recently was executive director of product marketing for General Motors Co.’s Gem portfolio of vehicles in China, Brazil and Mexico.
He also held executive positions in engineering and product development at Honda, Johnson Controls and Harley-Davidson. At Honda, Baker led the company’s r&d efforts in North America and served as the chief engineer of the 2001 Acura MDX and 2003 Japanese-model Accord in Japan.

And so Volkswagen has wisely decided that because it has that giant manufacturing plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, that’s making Passats that are sedans, not crossovers, it needs to do something. And that something is the Cross Coupe GTE, a seven-passenger crossover that will go into production near the end of 2016. Oh, and it is a hybrid.
