New passenger vehicles in the U.S. sold for an average of nearly $33,900 in April, up $74 from March, Kelly Blue Book estimates. The online data service says the average is $620 (about 2%) higher than a year ago.
KBB says the heftiest gains came from the traditional domestic brands, mainly because of continuing strong demand for trucks and SUVs. The service notes that prices for the growing midsize truck market rose nearly 7% year on year.
Average April prices by segment ranged from $15,300 for subcompact cars and $20,200 for compact cars to $91,600 for high-end luxury cars and $92,600 for high-performance cars, according to KBB.
