Autoliv Inc. tells Crain’s Detroit Business it is giving its North American headquarters a $32 million, two-year-long overhaul that includes adding a third floor.

The office and technical facility, located north of Detroit in Auburn Hills, will be gutted and reconfigured, according to the Stockholm-based supplier of airbags, seatbelts and steering wheels. The renovation is expected to be completed in 2020.

CDB notes that Autoliv also is spending $23 million to consolidate four of its sensors, electronics and software operations in southeast Michigan into a new building in nearby Southfield. That facility will become the North American headquarters of Veoneer Inc., formerly Autoliv ASP Inc., which was spun off earlier this month.
