Alcoa Inc. expects to ship record-high quantities of aluminum sheet for automotive body panels in the current quarter.

The company anticipates earnings from its rolled aluminum business, which also supplies the aircraft and packaging industries, will more than double for the period.

Analysts expect more of the same for aluminum suppliers as carmakers boost their use of the light metal to help bolster vehicle fuel economy.

Alcoa reports its overall net income jumped to $149 million in the third quarter from $24 million in the same period of 2013.
