Volkswagen AG’s Audi unit is giving its TT small car an exterior makeover, new transmission, a particulate filter for gasoline engines and more standard features.
As before, the TT will come in coupe and convertible variants. Styling changes are highlighted by a sportier grille and large side air inlets. The new model also gets a capless fuel tank.
The 2019 TT will be offered with the carryover 6-speed manual transmission or a new 7-speed dual-clutch system. The current 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is expected to remain the base engine powerplant in the U.S. The up-level TT RS’s 400-hp 2.5-liter mill also is expected to continue.
An optional S line package features a full-length front splitter and sportier rear with a wider diffuser and vertical air inlets. In models with the S line package or Audi’s magnetic ride system, the body is 10 mm lower to improve handling characteristics.
Among the freshened car’s standard features are a digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch display, rain and light sensors, heated side mirrors and a multi-function steering wheel. Other goodies include illuminated USB ports and Bluetooth for wireless pairing of devices.
