Volkswagen AG's Audi unit will show the latest prototype of its A3 e-tron hybrid car at next month's Geneva auto show. The company said last year it would begin producing the five-door hatch this year.
The A3 e-tron's powertrain includes a modified 1.4-liter turbocharged direct gasoline injection engine that makes 150 hp. The powerplant links through a clutch to a 75-kW electric motor built into the car's six-speed, dual-clutch S tronic transmission.
The configuration delivers a net 204 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels, according to Audi. The company says the car can zip from zero to 62 mph in 7.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 138 mph. In electric mode, the A3 hybrid can travel 31 miles and reach a top speed of 81 mph.
Fuel consumption on the European test cycle is 1.5 liters/100 km (157 mpg). Carbon dioxide emissions are 35 g/km.
