Audi Tech Chief Quits
Volkswagen AG says Stefan Knirsch, who was in charge of technical development for its Audi unit, has left the company in agreement with VW’s supervisory board.
Volkswagen AG says Stefan Knirsch, who was in charge of technical development for its Audi unit, has left the company in agreement with VW’s supervisory board.
The carmaker reportedly suspended Knirsch last week for his role in allowing cheater software to be used in the company’s 3.0-liter diesel engines to evade emissions tests. German newspaper Bild am Sonntag said an investigation by U.S. law firm Jones Day concluded Knirsch lied under oath when denied knowing about the use of the defeat devices.
Knirsch had replaced Ulrich Hackenberg in January, who was suspended and subsequently quit over the emissions scandal.
