Audi AG will use next week's Detroit auto show to introduce the first gasoline-powered version of its SQ5 high-performance crossover vehicle.
The SQ5 debuted in Europe last summer with a twin-turbo diesel. Audi says the gasoline version was developed specifically for markets in North and South America, Russia, the Ukraine, China, Japan and South Korea.
The new SQ5 is propelled by a variant of the 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine that powers Audi's S4 and S5 performance sedans.
Audi says the gasoline-fueled SQ5 can zoom from zero to 100 kph in 5.3 seconds (0.2 seconds slower than the diesel version) and reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 kph. The car consumes 8.5 liters of gasoline per 100 km on the European test cycle compared with 6.5 liters per 100 km for the diesel.
