The new Q3 rides on Volkswagen Group's modular MQB platform that also underpins Audi’s A1, A3 and TT small cars. Measuring 177 inches, the 2019 model is nearly 4 inches longer—most of which comes within the wheelbase—than its predecessor. The new Q3 also is one inch wider and sits slightly lower.
The car’s exterior makeover borrows styling cues from the latest Q8 large SUV. The look includes bolder fenders, a wider grille and slimmer LED headlights.
Three 4-cylinder gasoline engines and one diesel mill will be offered in Europe. High-performance RS and plug-in hybrid variants also are said to be in the works. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch system. The optional all-wheel-drive system can be enhanced with a hill descent feature that maintains a preset speed on steep downhill drives.
The optional S Line package includes an adjustable sport suspension. Among the available driver aids are adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, front collision warning with cyclist and pedestrian detection, park assist with automated steering and a surround-view camera.
